AltForm debuts new identity and laser platforms ahead of Formnext 2025
Stay up to date with everything that is happening in the wonderful world of AM via our LinkedIn community.Prima Additive has formally rebranded as AltForm, marking a strategic shift in focus from metal 3D printing toward a broader portfolio of industrial laser technologies. The move follows Sodick Co., Ltd.’s majority acquisition in May 2025 and precedes the company’s debut under its new name at Formnext 2025 in Frankfurt.
The AltForm name, which stands for “Advanced Laser Technologies for Manufacturing,” reflects a growing product lineup that now includes laser powder bed fusion (PBF), directed energy deposition (DED), remote laser welding, laser hardening, and integrated robotic automation. While the brand and visual identity have changed, the company reports that its team, leadership, and operations remain in Turin, Italy, with plans to open a larger facility in 2026.
New hardware and software platforms
At Formnext, taking place November 18–21, AltForm will unveil two new PBF machines—the Print 300 and Print 400—designed for higher industrial throughput, tighter thermal control, and compatibility with modular automation systems. Both machines include a redesigned gas flow system, enhanced multi-laser coordination, and new chamber architectures optimized for scalability and integration with AltForm’s in-house powder handling systems.
Also on display will be the Print Genius 300, featuring a new automated chamber extraction unit that allows depowdering and job setup to run in parallel. The unit also features a filtration system with solid-state passivation, designed to reduce maintenance frequency and enhance safety.
AltForm is introducing an AI-enhanced human-machine interface (HMI) and software suite that spans machine control, fleet management, and remote monitoring. Features include real-time dashboards, anomaly detection, blockchain-based traceability, and predictive maintenance tools. The software also tracks ESG (environmental, social, and governance) metrics across production lines.
The company will showcase its ZENIT robotic cell equipped with wire-based DED, which supports multi-process configurations such as powder DED, wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM), laser welding, and surface treatment. The modular platform is targeted at flexible and hybrid manufacturing environments.
Sodick investment fuels long-term growth
AltForm confirmed that it will remain headquartered in Turin, with plans to relocate to a larger facility in 2026 as part of Sodick’s broader strategy to expand production, application development, and systems integration capacity.
“Changing our name to AltForm is much more than a rebranding. It reflects who we have become and where we are going,” said Paolo Calefati, Chief Executive Officer at AltForm. “Together with Sodick, we are expanding our scope to the full spectrum of advanced laser technologies and automation. Our mission is clear: deliver reliable, scalable, and intelligent laser manufacturing solutions for the factories of tomorrow.”
