Izumo Taisha Shinmon Street Live Camera

Izumo Taisha is one of the oldest shrines in Japan, located in Taisha-cho, Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture. The main deity is Okuninushi-no-Mikoto, who is known as the god of matchmaking. The main hall, designated a national treasure, is a representative example of Taisha-zukuri architecture and boasts a height of about 24 meters. Every October, it is said that gods from all over the country gather there during the “Kamiarizuki” month, and the shrine is crowded with many worshippers. There are many things to see in the precincts, such as a huge shimenawa rope and four torii gates, and it is an important cultural heritage where you can experience Japanese mythology and history.

Shinmon-dori is a 700m street known as the main approach to Izumo Taisha Shrine. It stretches from the large torii gate at Ukabashi Bridge to the main gate of Izumo Taisha Shrine, and is lined with around 60 stores, including souvenir shops and Izumo soba and zenzai shops. The view of Izumo Taisha Shrine from Ukabashi Bridge, a nationally registered tangible cultural property, is spectacular. In recent years, the road has been improved and paved with cobblestones, restoring it to a stately and lively street befitting Izumo Taisha Shrine. Bustling with worshippers and tourists, it has become the center of tourism in Izumo.
